Employee Owned ESOP

BACK Construction is 100% Employee Owned… But What Does That Mean?
You’ve probably heard companies proudly say they’re employee-owned. But what does that really mean? Does everyone suddenly get a say in every decision? Who’s in charge? Let’s clear it up.
When a company is employee-owned, it operates under an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). While many ESOP companies are only partially employee-owned, it’s rare to be 100% employee-owned—and that’s something we’re proud of. Below, we’ll answer the most common questions and explain what ownership looks like at BACK Construction.
What does “employee ownership” mean?
Employee ownership means that no single person, family, or outside investor holds the majority of company stock. Instead, shares are placed in a special trust (an Employee Stock Ownership Trust, or ESOT) and allocated to individual employee accounts over time.
Employees don’t directly own stock in their hands—they’re beneficial owners. Think of it as ownership through participation: when the company succeeds, every employee shares in that success.
Management structure still looks like any other company—leaders lead, teams collaborate—but there’s a difference: when you work in an employee-owned company, everyone has a stake in the outcome. That creates a culture of accountability, teamwork, and pride.

If everyone is an “owner,” who oversees the company?
Being employee-owned doesn’t mean day-to-day decisions are made by committee. Just like any other company, leadership roles and responsibilities are clearly defined.
At BACK Construction, oversight starts with our Board of Directors. The Board’s job is to act in the best interest of our employees (the shareholders) and ensure management is making decisions that strengthen the company as a whole.
In other words: we still have a clear chain of leadership, but one that’s rooted in the idea that every employee matters—because here, they literally do.
How does an ESOP affect company culture and morale?
When a company is 100% employee-owned, employees have a true stake in the company’s success and feel more inclined to make day-to-day decisions that drive businesses forward. When BACK’s employees take pride in their work, it’s because they have a real investment in the company’s success.
